Hello and welcome back to the WrestleMania Rumor Mill series here at Entertainment Escape. This is the final installment of the series, and as promised, I will be spending this time addressing John Cena’s big match at the Showcase of the Immortals.

I know you’re probably thinking, “That title has nothing to do with John Cena. His name isn’t there and there is no reference to any nickname or catchphrase.” That is because like his match at WrestleMania, this John Cena post isn’t about John Cena himself. Without further delay, let’s dig into the rumors surrounding John Cena at WrestleMania.

If you don’t know, John Cena is in a mixed tag team match at WrestleMania. He will be teaming with his girlfriend Nikki Bella to take on the power couple of Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and his wife, the former two-time Divas Champion, Maryse.

Like I said, this match is not about John Cena or The Miz or even Nikki Bella. This match is all about Maryse. Maryse used to be in the women’s division at WWE, back when they referred to the ladies as “Divas”. Maryse actually set a record as the longest-reigning Divas Champion during one of the two times she held the title, but that record was broken by both AJ Lee and then none other than Nikki Bella in the years to follow. Maryse left the company in 2011, but roughly five years later, she resurfaced the night after WrestleMania 32 aligning with her real-life husband, The Miz, and helping him to regain the Intercontinental Championship.

Both John Cena and The Miz have produced career resurgence over the past few years. John Cena adopted the US Open Challenge where he would defend the United States Championship almost every week following his win over Rusev at WrestleMania 31. The Miz has almost become synonymous with the Intercontinental Championship in almost the same amount of time, if not longer. John Cena has held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at least once since the last time The Miz even had a WWE Championship match, but I believe that with the work Miz has done on SmackDown LIVE over the past few months, he will get his shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship sooner rather than later and I personally hope that the Most Must-See WWE Superstar of All Time actually gets another run as top champion in the near future.

As for the ladies, Nikki Bella has become something of a veteran in the locker room, but with her sister Brie Bella ready to pop at any minute and give birth to her and Daniel Bryan’s firstborn child, it stands to reason that if the rumors are true, Aunt Nikki may be looking to take some time away from the ring to help her sister while her brother-in-law has his hands full as SmackDown LIVE’s general manager. With Maryse playing the role of trophy wife arm candy for the past year, it also feels like a good opportunity for someone like her to pick up where Nikki leaves off. Maryse is perfectly capable of getting back in the ring and with her joining her husband on the road, it only felt like a matter of time before The French Phenom would find her way back between the ropes. The bottom line is this: The match may read “John Cena and Nikki Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse” but the main idea here is that Maryse is getting her hands dirty for the first time in at least 5 years. This is a big deal for everyone involved, but the whole match is about Maryse, who has been in the background during the build-up, but I believe she will definitely turn heads this Sunday at the Ultimate Thrill Ride.

Still yet, the match itself is not carrying nearly as many rumors as what could come afterward. For months, one of the heaviest talking point concerning the relationship of John Cena and Nikki Bella has been the topic of marriage. “He’ll never marry you.” “That’s not real love.” “It’s all for show.” From Natalya to Carmella and even her own sister, Nikki has heard all about how John Cena is not ready to get married again even though she wants it so bad she has tried to bring it up multiple times. There is video evidence to prove it. The entire thing has been a plot point on Total Divas and Total Bellas on more than one occasion.

There have been quite a few mentions of this particularly over the past few months. It seemed the closer we got to WrestleMania, the more we heard about how John Cena has not proposed to his girlfriend… yet.

If there ever was a rumor to churn the mill into a frenzy, it is this one. Personally, my investment in this mixed tag team match is two-prong. While I am beyond excited to see Maryse get back into the ring full-time and teach the SmackDown LIVE women’s roster what a French Revolution is really about, I will be glued to the screen for what comes after the 1…2…3. It is the boldest of bold predictions. I have been saying it since AT LEAST November.

At WrestleMania, in front of THOUSANDS of fans at the Citrus Bowl and MILLIONS watching around the world, John Cena will ask Nikki Bella to marry him. We haven’t seen an honest proposal at WrestleMania since Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth and that was when WrestleMania was in the single digits. I think this would be a beautiful moment for both of them. With Cena planting his flag in other entertainment ventures beyond WWE and Nikki dealing with neck injury issues and a growing family back home, the next chapter of their lives seems all but ready to be written and I cannot think of a better moment than WrestleMania for them to take that next step together. I can honestly say right now that I will likely shed at least a few tears if that moment actually does happen. I feel like I certainly could just about cry picturing it in my head right now.

That magical feeling of WrestleMania is just around the corner. What do you think? Will John Cena propose? Is the match about Maryse or is she just there? Please join the conversation on social media and don’t forget to watch WrestleMania 33: The Ultimate Thrill Ride LIVE from Orlando, Florida at a Special Start Time of 7pm e/ 4pm p ONLY on the WWE Network.

Thank you so much for following along with the WrestleMania Rumor Mill series. I hope you have enjoyed it. Stay tuned throughout the weekend as I present my own personal WrestleMania predictions blog. In recognition of how large the list of matches is and that this is the first Brand Extension WrestleMania in at least 10 years, I will be doing two separate blogs: one for Raw’s matches and one for SmackDown LIVE’s matches. Stay tuned…
